OR: What's Up With Genesis, Anyway?
You know when you start reading the first book of The Holy Bible (Genesis), and if you ain't in The Club...you know, a card carrying believer, soaked in the sacred blood of the lamb...if you're just a regular, normal person who isn't a Christian...you know, an average citizen---and you start to read from word one, page one---it is entirely possible that you're going to start to wonder what the bleep you've walked into.
IF you are a fire-breathing, born-again, you're going to hell if'n you don't believe in Jesus Christ as The Son of God, "...and touch the television screen as a point of contact..." and all that jazz...sort of person, then maybe you just can't read Genesis the same way as an ordinary mortal might read this whacked out, crazy first book of The Holy Bible.
Just saying...if you can try and understand why people seriously leave that first book wondering at the basic giant sized implausibility that this planet was created some six-thousand years ago, let alone the entire universe...and the stone-cold insistence by certain segments of the Christian deal that the entire Holy Bible is....word-for-word, completely accurate...no exceptions...it is The Truth---and if'n you all don't believe, well, you're going to HELL...and Satan's got you by the ears, and is spilling false hood into your mind...and so on, and so on....
...if you can try and understand...
...how this can appear odd to ordinary people...
---who don't believe the way you do---
...you are going to be making a giant leap forward in your own inner spiritual journey of being a real disciple of Jesus Christ.
It is the thick-headed, bone-headed, stiff-necked believer...that drives away people from ever coming inside the Christian deal.
But that isn't what this article is about...by the way.
I just had to get that off my chest, I guess.
'Cuz that's what came out when I started to write this article...which is actually going to be about the mental diet to be found in the first book of The Bible.
As you know from the title of this article, one of the acronym's of The Bible is:
Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth
In the first article I wrote with this title...I got into the teaching about a God-given diet...the so-called Genesis Diet.
Well, in this article...I am writing about the next great teaching given by God. It is NOT to eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil.
This has a lot to do with what I will describe as your mental-intellectual-emotional-psychic diet...AKA, what you put in your head, heart and soul...the content that you consume.
Yes, this might seem like a large stretch...but you have to wonder, why would God care if you know...have knowledge of...know the difference between good and evil?
Why does God NOT want you to eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil?
What does knowing this...jeopardize?
One word: Innocence.
The state of consciousness of being transparent, with everything visible, naked and what you see is what you get. It is being truthful and honest...even inside yourself. It is being naked before God.
A Word From The Wife:
So...this morning I asked my wife what her take on the incident in the Garden of Eden was all about...you know, eating from the Tree of Knowledge.
She told me it meant that they did not know about being naked...they (Adam and Eve) were in a simple state of awareness. They were like the tree or the flower or the bird or the turtle or the clouds or the fruit...just being what they were, without being self-conscious.
Does the apple worry about being naked?
No, of course not.
Does the tree think to itself, "Oh, I am naked. I better cover up."
No, don't be ridiculous.
The tree just is a tree, nothing more, nothing less.
So...Adam and Eve were just themselves, naked, and unaware that they were...naked.
Here is the tough question, because this is the second teaching found in Genesis...about how to just be...without pretensions...or fretting about what you are...or what you are not.
Does this mean you are required to become naked...literally naked?
I'll leave that up to you.
It does mean you have to return to your primal state of being.
That is the teaching of the Garden of Eden...before you ate from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil.
Here is another point of view about this strange episode of what is sometimes called The Fall of Man:
Excerpt from Ernest Holmes: http://newthoughtlibrary.com/holmesErnest/scienceOfMind/som_284.htm#TopOfText
You know, it might help (or not) to read the actual text from the big, fat book...yes, don't groan too loud...here it is, the part in question:
Here is the story:
Okay, so that ends the story...there's the Fall of Man...we get chucked out of The Garden of Eden because:
- We disobeyed God
- We became like God...knowing everything, ranging from good to evil
- We were too much of a risk...we might eat from the Tree of Life, and live forever
Somehow we stopped being primordial, and at that moment we ended the compact God had made with us. We knew way too much, and threatened The Gods...and had become like one of them.
Hey, don't get all weird on me...it says so, right in The Holy Bible. I am NOT making this up. How do you explain this away?
You can't.
IT just is too clear, isn't it?
Well, isn't it?
Come on, stay with me here. You can do it. Make the leap to warp speed and step out of the thick goop of your belief system you've taken on from the heavy pressure of the Born-Again, so-called Fundamentalist, Bible thumping, every word is the word of God...yes, you know what I mean.
Don't you?
Even Jesus...yes, I dare to write it...even Jesus says it:
Man-oh-Man...is there a disconnect within the faith communities about this very basic teaching? It is embedded in the scripture...and is not popular with the current crop of guardians who have co-opted Christian teachings.
I get it...just too far out...that you are a god...that you ARE God. Hey...of all the people on this planet...I get it. But you need to be challenged...yes you do. There is a basic loss of the real-deal when you keep on clinging to the old, worn-out everybody is going to Hell if'n they don't believe in the Blood of the Lamb...and all that stuff.
The Blood Atonement deal.
The gift is so much more than pointing your fingers at Muslims or Hindus or Buddhists or Atheists or Heathens or Aboriginals or...gasp...humanists...and condemning them because you think you have a particular spin on The Deal...that is the one and only spin...and everything else is...gasp...Satan!
So...you tell me...go on, I dare you...sheesh, I double-dog-dare-you...tell me what the REAL version is from the Genesis book...what does it really mean when God says, "...The Man has become like one of us..."
You can write an entire article, and I will post it on this blog, and I will leave it there for people to read. Really, I will.
Enough.
All the Best!
