This name is one of the great names of God, from the Old Testament, and is used as part of many names of God found in The Holy Bible.
Here are a few examples:
- Emmanuel (often associated with Jesus Christ)
- Immanuel (as above)
- Elohim
- Eloah
- El-Shaddai
The purpose of using the thought-construct is to give your mind a place to be in the form of a single focus. This gives you a chance to form a presence of your own awareness long enough to become aware that you are...aware.
This is accomplished during the process of you having that little, tiny moment when you go, "Oh...hmmmm...what am I doing right now? Oh, yes, I am thinking and or feeling stuff about (whatever it is you are thinking and or feeling about)...and yes, right...okay---I am doing this Lesson of the Day thing, right. Okay, what's the thought-construct? Oh, yes...it's EL...right, got it...okay, let's think EL...right, EL...EL...EL..."
Now, most of the time, when you become aware of your own awareness...you're probably going to notice that you were absorbed in a thought and or feeling associated with some event stemming from your past...or linked to something in the future.
Most of the time you are going to catch yourself thinking about anything other than what you are actually doing at the time you are doing it. Oh, you might have some concurrent thoughts relevant to the present moment action you are performing...but for the most part you are NOT going to be here, in the now.
Check yourself right now, and you'll see what I mean. You'll probably notice that you are NOT quite with this particular sentence, right now...and are somewhere else in space and time in your mind---perhaps comparing the idea being expressed in this sentence or in previous parts of this article with other ideas that you associate with.
Such is the rich stream of your consciousness that you can be driving your car, watching a film, making love with your lover, be at work, on the telephone, and yet...your mind is here, there, everywhere but where you are...right now, in this here and now.
And that's why this process of practicing the Lesson of the Day is so amazingly and incredibly helpful to you developing a substantial presence of you-you-you...and becoming AWAKE...and less a victim of your own lack of self-awareness.
What's even more amazingly incredible about this practice is how easy it is to actually do it:
- When you become aware that you are no longer with the thought-construct, begin to let your awareness experience the presence of the thought-construct
- IF you become aware that you have other thoughts and or feelings going on at the same time that you are being with the thought-construct, that's okay and very normal
- Do NOT resist or block other thoughts and or feelings from co-existing in your awareness with the thought-construct
- IF your awareness of the thought-construct is blotted out by other thoughts and or feelings, don't try and force your mind to think ONLY the thought-construct
- Just gently let your awareness experience the presence of the thought-construct
For best results, keep the following instructions as the operating system of your practice of the Lesson of the Day:
- This is NOT a form of deliberate mood-making
- You are NOT trying to change the way you feel
- Be innocent and easy, neither anticipating or expecting a specific result
- IF you have an episode of elevated mood---that's great
- Let come what comes to you
- Do this practice throughout your day, into the evening, and while you fall asleep at night
